Today, PMM Companies is a leading provider of janitorial and maintenance services in the Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD and Boca Raton, FL areas. PMM services over 350 facilities and employs over 1,000 people. Our beginnings, though, were much more humble. PMM began in 1977 when Potomac Minute Maids, Inc. (PMM) was founded. PMM was a small residential house cleaning company with a vision of superior service.
From the beginning, PMM’s strong business ethics have been reflected in the corporate philosophy: As a family-owned and operated company for 35 years, the values of respect, integrity, service and excellence remain the core beliefs of all divisions within PMM. It is a credo that served PMM well as the company has evolved and grown to satisfy the ever-changing market and customer needs.
In 1980, Steve Lustig was hired as general manager to expand the company into the commercial janitorial area. The processes, procedures and training were established to help PMM grow from a small to mid-size company able to offer high-quality janitorial services to a variety of commercial businesses and facilities.
In 1989 Mitch Lustig became a partner in PMM and integrated his large corporate background and executive sales experience to accelerate PMM’s expansion. A large part of this growth came through PMM’s penetration into the non-profit facility market. PMM’s attention to detail, sense of urgency and ability to develop flexible schedules were a natural fit for seven-day facilities such as schools and religious institutions.

In 1996, PMM expanded its product offering once again to meet client needs by establishing a Facility Maintenance and Management Division to compliment the Janitorial Division. The need for competent building engineers and preventative maintenance programs was met by hiring operational experts in the building operations and maintenance field. With a broad range of service available to our commercial and non-profit clients, in 2004 PMM penetrated the government sector by being awarded schedule 03FAC, contract GS-06F-0019P by the GSA.
Since 2004, acquisions have played a key role in PMM’s growth. In 2007, PMM acquired AT ONCE CLEANING SERVICES (now PMM OF BALTIMORE), ARROW CROWN WINDOW CLEANING CONTRACTORS and HEARN-MORRILL CLEANING CORPORATION. However the most important corporate philosophy change occurred in 2007. PMM’s executive team aligned the company and all its subsidiary cleaning and plant operations procedures, products and practices with the standards established by Green Seal and the U.S. Green Building Council. PMM has pledged to help the environment and converted all cleaning services to green methods. We believe that by working together, we can do our part to sustain the environment while creating healthy buildings for ourselves and communities
.As a result of these certifications, PMM can now help any institution achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. This is an exciting new chapter in the history of PMM and will be approached with the same attention to detail and quality that the home cleaning company demonstrated 35 years ago.
