A History of Superior Personalized Service...

Potomac Minute Maids, Inc. was founded in 1977, when a small residential house cleaning company with a vision of superior level service was born. "Team cleaning" was a new way of servicing the exploding home cleaning market for two income families. The conventional means of having a housekeeper in your home cleaning all day was an expensive alternative to the expanding upper middle class market. Teams of cleaners could systematically, efficiently, and inexpensively service the rapidly growing demographics of dual income families who lacked the time to effectively clean their own homes. They now had an alternative; Potomac Minute Maids, Inc. was there to service them.

In 1980, an energetic general manager was hired. Steve Lustig had the vision, drive and business savvy to begin the process of developing the PMM Companies. In 1981, with the residential service in full stride, the company expanded into the commercial janitorial arena. The growth was slow, but consistent. The company only brought on commercial customers when attention to detail and sense of urgency could be assimilated into the workforce. This philosophy of doing things the right way still remains the core belief of all divisions of the PMM Companies.

In 1989, Mitch Lustig became an owner, and partner in the PMM Companies. Mitch brought his large company background, and executive level sales experience to the small, but growing organization. In the same year, the home cleaning division was sold as PMM continued to evolve. PMM found opportunities to expand its janitorial expertise into the non-profit arena. Our attention to detail and sense of urgency were natural fits for these seven day facilities, including many schools and religious institutions. This work would eventually lead PMM's entry into the facilities maintenance and management field. Starting in 1996, the non-profit janitorial customers we were servicing developed a need for competent building engineers, and organized preventative maintenance programs. We identified and hired operational expertise in the building operations and maintenance field. This became the core of our now greatly expanded facilities maintenance and management capabilities.

With janitorial, operations and maintenance, facilities maintenance and management and tenant improvement services in our arsenal of services, we were ready to fit the final piece to the puzzle. In January 2004, we took the best of our commercial and non-profit divisions, and offered them to the government sector, culminating in the award by GSA of the multiple award schedule 03FAC, contract GS-06F-0019P. This is an exciting new chapter in the history of the PMM Companies, one that will be approached with the same attention to detail and sense of urgency that the home cleaning company demonstrated over 27 years ago.
